Famed comedian and television presenter Jay Leno celebrates his 68th birthday this Saturday. Best known for hosting the world’s longest-running talk show, The Tonight Show, he made his first appearance on its set as a guest to perform a comedy routine. Out of the show’s moderators, he is also the only one to have presided over it during 2 tenures from 1992 to 2009 and from 2010 to 2014, respectively.
To celebrate the performer’s upcoming birthday, we have created the Jay Leno Timeline, which highlights important events and achievements in his life and career.
Prior to becoming the host of The Tonight Show as Johnny Carson’s successor in 1992, Mr. Leno had already debuted in the entertainment industry as an actor and stand-up comedian. He played a range of minor roles in films and TV series during the 70s and the 80s, while also touring as a stand-up. The latter activity will be a constant in his career even throughout, and after, his tenure on the late-night talk show that established him in the history of American television.
Apart from comedy, Jay Leno has a passion for cars and motorbikes as well, which prompted him to start a related web and TV series called Jay Leno’s Garage in August 2014. Owning an impressive collection of 169 automobiles and 117 motorcycles, he imparts his expertise and advice on a variety of automotive topics in a regular column in Popular Mechanics. He also helped Team Bondi, the developers of the popular video game L.A. Noire, to recreate the images of vehicles in the late 1940s by opening his garage to the company’s creative crew and showing his cars from that period.
The Jay Leno chronology was built with Office Timeline, a friendly-user PowerPoint plugin that helps you easily generate impressive timelines, Gantt chart and other similar visuals. The image is free to copy and distribute and can be restyled or updated using the Plus version of the tool.
